The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team opened their 2013 season with a 1-0 loss to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, August 31 at Varsity Centre.

Carleton's Theodore Lopex de Castilla (Ottawa) notched the game's lone goal in the 35th minute, sending a booming shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

The Blues put the pressure on to open the second half, and veteran striker Mario Kovacevic had the best chance to score on a cross from Veljko Lukovic, but the ball sailed wide of the net. First-year Blues midfielder Nikolay Saveliev also looked to have the equalizer, but rang his shot off the post minutes later.

The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, September 7 as they host the Nipissing Lakers at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 2:15 p.m.
