RAMS GET PAST BLUES

The Varsity Blues men’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to the Ryerson Rams on Sunday, September 23 at Birchmount Stadium.

With the loss, the Blues remain tied with Nipissing for fourth place with a 3-4-0 record, while the Rams improve to 4-1-2, placing them third overall in the OUA East division.

The Rams held the momentum, outshooting the Blues 15-6, en route to their first win over U of T since 1995.

Ryerson’s Armin Tankovic (Mississauga, Ont. ) opened the scoring in the 17th minute, blasting a shot to make the game 1-0. The Rams continued this effort as Milos Specanvoic (Belgrade) put the home team up by two just 13 minutes later.

Down 2-0 late in the second half, the Blues continued to battle. Donegal native and team captain Darragh McGee was able to spoil the Rams shut out, by rifling a penalty kick past Ryerson keeper Christian Maraldo in the 90th minute.

Rookie goalkeeper Rab Bruce Lockhart made seven saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, September 30 when they host the Carleton Ravens at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
