Day 1 Recap
The Varsity Blues notched a narrow 6-5 win over the Guelph Gryphons to improve to 2-0 and secure a spot in the final game on Day 2 of the OUA baseball championship at George Taylor Field in St. Catharines, Ont.
The Blues will play the winner of Brock/Guelph for the OUA title tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Toronto held a 4-0 lead after five innings of play. The Gryphons battled back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and added three more, to take a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning.
Jamie Lekas helped even the score, driving in Orion Katayama on a single with one out. Brent Page then stepped up to drive in Lekas for the winning run.
Steven Hersch led the Blues with two RBI. Drew Taylor earned the win on the mound, striking out four in eight innings of work.
