The Varsity Blues baseball team fell 7-1 before rebounding with a 4-3 victory over the first-place Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, September 24 at Jack Couch Park.
The first game remained close until the very end, with Waterloo holding a slight 2-1 lead after the first inning. The Warriors showed their strength in the seventh with five unanswered runs to secure the lopsided win.
U of T went on to build a 4-0 lead after three innings of play in the second game. Veteran pitcher Tyler Wilson hit a three-run home run in the top of the second. A late surge would see Waterloo score three runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Blues held on for the win.
Andrew Bergman earned the win on the mound, striking out five and allowing only one hit over six innings of work.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. The Blues will be revealing their new field name in honouring long-time head coach Dan Lang in a ceremony between games.
