Second-year striker Mario Kovacevic scored two goals in the first half to lead the No. 4 Varsity Blues men’s soccer team to a 4-0 win over the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, September 10 at Varsity Centre.

A native of Woodbridge, Ont., Kovacevic scored in the 27th and 34th minutes to give the Blues a 2-0 lead at the half.

Fourth-year defender Lawrence Buchan would notch his first goal of the year in the 81st minute and second-year midfielder Velko Lukovic rounded out the scoring with a tally in the 91st minute.

Goalkeeper John Smits earned his first shut out of the season. 

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host the Laurentian Voyageurs at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m.
