LONDON, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat the University of Toronto Varsity Blues by the score of 4-3 in OUA semi-final action on Friday, October 8 at Dan Pulham Memorial Field in London, Ont.
Brock starter Kurtis Robinson (Mississauga, Ont.) would go head-to-head against Toronto ace Marek Deska, who hadn't allowed a run all season. Both pitchers would go six complete innings in no-decisions with Robinson allowing two runs on five hits and eight strikeouts while Deska gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with a game high 10 strikeouts.
In the top of the 9th, the Varsity Blues would tie the game 3-3 after a two-out broken bat single off Brock reliever Nick Baljeu (Sarnia, Ont.). Baljeu would go three innings allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts.
In the 10th, OUA All-Star Justin Ayles (Brampton, Ont.) would come away with the victory giving up just one walk in one inning of work. Varsity Blues reliever Drew Taylor was issued the loss after struggling in the bottom of the 10th not retiring a Brock batter.
Steve Hopkins led the Blues with three hits, while Chris Cartile had one hit and two RBI in the loss.
