The No. 5 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team defeated the Trent Excalibur 5-0 on Sunday (Sept. 20) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.
With the win, the Blues have extended their winning streak to three-straight games and are currently second-place in the OUA East.
Toronto was on fire from the opening kick-off, controlling possession and causing chaos in the box. In the 12
th minute, first-year defender Sophia Glatter scored her third goal in her last two games, finishing off a pass from first-year midfielder Mikaela Milczarek to give Toronto an early advantage. The Blues kept piling it on as a pair of third-year athletes in Kimee Liu and Beatrice Audain created dangerous chances. In the 33
rd minute, Liu doubled the lead with her second goal of the season. In the 40
th minute, Liu took a free kick that connected with a header from fourth-year defender Natasha Budisa as the Blues No. 11 gave Toronto a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
Toronto kept their foot on the gas pedal to begin the second half. Storming down the wing was fifth-year midfielder Antonia Figueroa who's strike from the top of the box as perfectly placed over a jumping Kyora Chung as U of T gained a four-goal advantage. As the half progressed, a stout defensive performance from the Blue and White was backed by some of the best of veteran goalkeeper Maria Godoy-Atrash's two saves in the match.
Turning defence into offence, Liu finished off a three-point performance, scoring her second goal of the afternoon as U of T was in celebration following a dominant victory.
The Blues will now turn their attention to the RMC Paladins on Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon in Kingston, Ont. Kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m., with a live stream available on
