BLUES FALL TO PALADINS ON THE ROAD

The No. 5 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the RMC Paladins on Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon in Kingston, Ont.

Toronto got off to a quick start in the game, testing goalkeeper Brianna West who turned aside first-year midfielder Mikaela Milczarek's chance. The Paladins got their first chance of the afternoon in the 22nd minute but first-year Blues goalkeeper Neya Sidhu turned Annika Martens' chance aside. The Blues continued to put pressure on the Paladins as third-year forward Beatrice Audain was a force to be reckoned with in the first half. After 45 minutes of play, the two teams returned to their respective locker rooms with an unchanged score.

In the 47th minute, RMC opened the scoring as Bellarosa Ternes set up Angelica Labelle. U of T continued to fight for an equalizer through the second half, firing seven shots on the second half. Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Sidhu finished the match with three saves. In the 78th minute, Labelle scored her second goal of the match to put Toronto behind 2-0. The Blue and White kept fighting as they looked to climb back in the back.

Looking to get on the scoreboard, the 90th minute saw third-year midfielder Kimee Liu set up fourth-year defender Natasha Budisa to cut the lead in half. The goal marked Budisa's second goal in as many games. The Blues continued to fight until the very end but were unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle.

Toronto's back in action Sunday (Sept. 27) afternoon when they make a trip to the nation's capital to take on the Carleton Ravens. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m., with a live stream available on oua.tv.
