The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team played two games on Saturday (Sept. 19), falling 12-8 to the Western Mustangs and 17-14 to the Brock Badgers in Oshawa, Ont.

In a back-and-forth contest against an OUA powerhouse, the Blues and Mustangs traded punches from the get-go with U of T fighting off a two-goal Mustangs advantage and grabbing their first lead of morning with a four-goal third quarter. A strong finish from the Mustangs led the opposition to close out the victory.   

For the Blues and White, fifth-year attack Rheanna Swanson and first-year midfielder Cassie Chan led the way offensively with three goals each. First-year attack Brynn Williams and fourth-year midfielder Julia Ibelings also notched a goal versus the Mustangs. Third-year Surrey, B.C., native Jasleen Sandhu picked up an assist. First-year goalie Elizabeth Wu got the start in net.

For the Mustangs, Olivia Bladon had a four-goal, one-assist performance and Reese Wilkins scored three goals. Shelia Raminpour got the start in goal.

Shifting to their afternoon affair against the Badgers, it was a high scoring contest as any time the Badgers began to pull ahead, the pesky Blues wouldn't go away quietly. The Badgers had a 13-4 lead at the half but the Blues outscored the Badgers 10-4 in the second half, showing resilience right until the very end.

Swanson continued her strong afternoon for U of T, scoring a game-high eight goals and adding an assist against Brock, Meanwhile, Chan notched another hat trick and Sandhu and Williams each added another goal to their total. Third-year midfielder Erin Middleton also notched a goal and first-year midfielder Skye MacLean had two assists.

For the Badgers, Gabby Winters led the way offensively with three goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Abby Holliday scored a team-high four goals.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon when they face the Trent Excalibur in Kingston, Ont. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:45 p.m.
