The University of Toronto women's lacrosse team earned a 12-5 first round win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday (Oct. 16) morning at the OUA Championship in Peterborough.
The Blues dominated the opening contest of the provincial showcase nearly doubling their opponents in total shots on goal (20-11). The offensive pressure proved effective as a six-goal third quarter built a lead too big for the Ridgebacks to overcome.
Veteran attack Rheanna Swanson delivered five goals in the victory, adding one assist to round out her morning. The trio of Jasleen Sandhu, Madeline Perret, and Cassie Chan each added another two goals apiece, while Vanessa Donaldson rounded out the goal scorers with a single marker. Isabella Poon earned the win in net notching six saves.
With the win, U of T advance to the OUA quarter-finals matching up against the No. 1 seed and host Trent Excalibur. Action from Justin Chiu Stadium between the Blues and host will begin at 7 p.m., with both
live stats and a
livestream available.
