The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team head to Peterborough this weekend for the 2026 OUA Women's Lacrosse Championship, hosted by Trent University from Oct. 16-18.
U of T enter the championship as the No. 8 seed following a 1-6-1 (W-L-OTL) regular season. The Blues will open the provincial showcase in a playoff showdown versus No. 9 Ontario Tech. Toronto knocked off the Ridgebacks by a score of 14-8 during the final weekend of the regular season. The winner would then advance to a quarter-final later in the day versus the No. 1 seed and host Trent Excalibur.
Once again leading the attack for U of T, fifth-year standout Rheanna Swanson finished tied for second in the province with 28 goals this season. This was highlighted by a seven goal and two assist final weekend on home turf at Varsity Stadium. The roster is also bolstered by fourth-year midfielder Julia Ibelings. The History student recently competed internationally as a member of Team Netherlands at the 2026 Women's Lacrosse World Championships Division II.
The Blues will be looking to improve upon an eighth place finish last fall. U of T last earned a provincial medal in 2024, picking up bronze. Toronto's last OUA title came in 2002.
Action between the Blues and Ridgebacks is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. Full championship details are available on
