BLUES TAKE ON GRYPHONS AND GOLDEN HAWKS IN WATERLOO

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team took on the Guelph Gryphons and Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday (Sept. 13) in Waterloo, Ont., falling 17-6 and 19-3 respectively.

Versus Guelph, The Gryphons were able to jump out to an early lead but a pair of goals from fifth-year attack Rheanna Swanson got the Blue and White back in the game. The Blues kept pace with a strong Gryphons side in the second and third quarters but a strong finish from Guelph helped propel them to victory.

Leading the way for the Blues was third-year midfielder Vanessa Donaldson, who notched a four-goal performance. Meanwhile, Swanson also scored two goals. First-year goalie Elizabeth Wu got the start for Toronto.

On the Gryphons side, Kassi Hogan had a six-goal, one-assist game. Meanwhile, Keira Delaplante and Rachel McConvey each scored three goals.

In their second game of the day, the Golden Hawks offence shined in the first half with 12 goals at the midway whistle. The Blues continued to fight back as Swanson recorded a hat trick during the game. Meanwhile for Laurier, Tori Nascimento notched five goals, and four assists and Zoey Kruger scored seven goals while also notching an assist.

The Blues are back on the field on Saturday (Sept. 19) when they take on the Western Mustangs and Brock Badgers in Oshawa, Ont. The games are scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m., and 5:15 p.m.
