The No. 5 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team picked up a 4-0 win over the Trent Excalibur on Sunday (Sept. 13) afternoon in Peterborough, Ont.
In a dominant performance from the opening kick-off, the Blues found themselves controlling possession and piling the shots on Excalibur goalkeeper Kymora Chung. In the first half, U of T went into the locker room with a 9-0 shots on goal advantage and took seven corners to Trent's one. In the 31
st minute, Toronto saw a breakthrough offensively as long throw in by third-year forward Ines Delhomelle found the foot of first-year defender Sophia Glatter who fired it home for her first goal in the OUA. The Blues kept their foot on the gas pedal, doubling their lead in the 32
nd minute as Glatter set up first-year midfielder Mikaela Milczarek, who pounced on the ball and fired it into the back of the net. The Blues would add a third goal before the end of the half as Glatter improved on her already strong performance. The Etobicoke native squeaked loose in the box and fired home a pass from third-year midfielder Kimee Liu as the Blues took a three-goal cushion into halftime.
The Blues kept momentum on their side with a strong defensive performance in the second half, limiting the Excalibur to one shot on goal and zero corners. Offensively, Toronto added an another insurance marker in the 56
th minute as Delhomelle finished off fourth-year defender Samantha Gravina's pass for her third goal of the season. In goal, first-year keeper Neya Sidhu earned a clean sheet in her OUA debut. For the Excalibur, Chung finished the game with 16 saves in a busy afternoon versus a strong Blues attack.
