The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's fencing team earned four medals as the individual competition wrapped up on Day 1 of the OUA championship (March 7) at the University of Waterloo.
Toronto, who is vying for their 10th consecutive OUA banner, leads the team standings with 180 points, 29 points ahead of the Waterloo Warriors (151). The McMaster Marauders and Ottawa Gee-Gees sit tied for third with 50 points apiece.
The Blues delivered a dominant performance in the épée competition, sweeping the entire podium with a 1-2-3-4 finish.
PhD candidate Seraphim Jarov led the way with a gold-medal performance, defeating first-year standout Evan Wang, 15-6, in the final. Nicholas Gutierrez-Sarabia finished third, topping rookie teammate Raphael Chan in the bronze-medal bout.
Matthew Teng garnered the fourth medal of the day for the Blues, successfully defending his sabre title with a thrilling 15-8 victory over Waterloo's Richard Yang. Toronto's Leo Chen placed fourth following a narrow 15-10 loss to Waterloo's David Li in the bronze-medal bout, while Richard Chen and Siyuan Shao placed eight and 11th, respectively.
Alastair Rajpal, Jimmy Zhou, Aimon Heese and Hymn Chan represented Toronto in the foil competition, placing 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th, respectively.
The team relay competition gets underway tomorrow (March 8) as the 2026 OUA men's fencing championship wraps up in Waterloo.
