MARR ANNOUNCED AS NEW VARSITY BLUES FENCING HEAD COACH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are excited to share the appointment of Jodi Marr as Varsity Blues fencing head coach, effective immediately.

Marr is a familiar face to the Varsity Blues fencing program, first joining the coaching staff as an assistant during the 2012-13 season. She has most recently served as co-head coach of the program this past season. In addition, Marr is a Varsity Blues fencing alumna herself, competing with the team while achieving her Master of Information at the University of Toronto between 2009 and 2011.

"As a former Varsity Blue, U of T alumna, and long-serving assistant coach, it is a privilege to be named head coach of the University of Toronto fencing team," said Marr. "This program has shaped me in so many ways, and I am excited to lead the next generation of student-athletes while building on a tradition of excellence, sportsmanship, and community."

During her time coaching with the U of T fencing program so far, Marr has already contributed to six OUA women's provincial championships and seven OUA men's provincial titles. As a Varsity Blues student-athlete, Marr earned OUA all-star honours and lifted the OUA banner during the 2010-11 campaign. As well, she earned a nomination for the prestigious University of Toronto Clara Benson Award.

The NCCP-certified coach has extensive experience beyond the Varsity Blues program as well. Marr served as a Results Associate at the 2015 Toronto Pan/Para Pan Am Games. As well, she was a panelist with the Canadian Fencing Federation, presenting on gender equity. She currently serves as Secretariat for the Ontario Fencing Association, holding the role since 2022.

As well, she draws on her education in her role as Chief Executive Officer of Aurora Public Library, where she leads work that expands access to information, learning, and community connection.
