VARSITY BLUES WRESTLERS CLAIM FIVE OUA BRONZE MEDALS

Delivering one of the best team performances in recent years, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues wrestling team earned five bronze medals at the 2026 OUA Wrestling Championships.

Sending a team of nine men and six women, competing across 15 different weight classes, the Varsity Blues delivered beyond expectations at the provincial showcase. In total, the team earned nine Top 6 finishes, including the five podium results. With 28 points scored, the U of T men placed seventh in the overall standings, while 18 points for the women saw them finish in eighth place.

On the men's side of the draw, the trio of Josiah Mayers-Noel, Andrija Rasovic and Lucas Andtbacka all claimed the third step of the podium in their respective weight classes. Mayers-Noel parlayed a 3-1 round-robin record in the 76kg bracket into a bronze medal match appearance, defeating his opponent 14-3 to claim his first OUA medal. Varsity Blues veteran Rasovic finished the day with four total wins, including a 10-0 technical fall victory in the 100kg bronze medal match. Newcomer Andtbacka was extremely impressive winning four of his five matches to claim 90kg bronze in his first OUA Championships appearance.

For the women, another Varsity Blues veteran in Maya Salman garnered bronze in the 62kg category, earning her first OUA medal after a pinfall victory in the bronze medal match. First-year Varsity Blue Senuki Dasanayaka also achieved bronze in the 56kg category after rebounding from an opening bout loss to win three straight matches en route to the podium.

The five bronze medals mark the most OUA medals achieved at a single provincial championship in program history for the Varsity Blues. Additionally, it marked the first time in U of T wrestling history that the Blues had multiple female medalists.

Next up for qualified wrestlers will be the 2026 U SPORTS Wrestling Championships, hosted this year by Lakehead University in Thunder Bay from Feb. 27-28.
