PLAYOFF PREVIEW: OUA MEN'S RUGBY QUARTER-FINAL

Qualifying for the OUA postseason for the first time since 2008, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's rugby team will host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Varsity Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 24) in an OUA quarter-final showdown.

Delivering on a historic season, the Blues went 4-1-1 (W-L-T) during the regular season, finishing in third overall in the 12-team league. The physicality and defensive intensity were key to U of T's success this season as they ranked second in the province in total points against, conceding just 106 across the six-game regular season schedule. This included holding opponents to under 20-points in three of their four wins, and was highlighted by a 45-0 shutout of the TMU Bold late in the campaign.

As for their opponent, the Golden Hawks grabbed the sixth position and final playoff spot after a 3-3-0 regular season. Laurier's three wins came against familiar foes to the Blues as the knocked off Waterloo, McMaster, and Brock. However, Laurier currently hold a two-game losing streak ahead of the OUA postseason. But with their last loss to U of T coming back in 2010, they will carry plenty of confidence into Toronto on Saturday.

The winner of the Saturday night quarter-final will advance to a semifinal showdown with the No. 2 seed Western Mustangs.
