U OF T FIELD HOCKEY RECEIVES TWO MAJOR AWARDS AND TWO ALL-STARS

As announced by the OUA on Thursday (Oct. 22) afternoon, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team garnered two major awards and two all-stars.

Earning 2026 OUA Field Hockey Most Valuable Player, fourth-year midfielder and defender Maggie Mullins received the honour for the first time in her career. Vital to the Blues staunch defensive play, the team captain appeared in all 12 regular season matches. Along with her ability to shut down opponent attacks and quickly transition to offensive opportunities for U of T, she also added two goals herself this season. This marks the 17th time a Varsity Blue has been named MVP since 1996, and the first since Sam McCrory in 2022. Along with MVP, Mullins was also named an OUA all-star for the third time in her Varsity Blues career.

Another factor in the Blues outstanding defensive season, fourth-year defender Kirsten D'Silva was named an OUA all-star for the first time in her Varsity Blues career. A steady stick in the defensive zone, D'Silva consistently placed herself into great positions to pressure opposing attackers. She additionally notched her first career goal, providing a punch for the Blues at both ends of the pitch.

Rounding out the major awards recipients, interim head coach Alison Lee was named 2026 OUA Coach of the Year. Stepping into a leadership position after serving as an assistant over the past few seasons, Lee guided the Blues to an 8-1-3 (W-L-T) regular season record to finish in second place in the standings. With Lee at the helm, U of T allowed just six goals against while scoring 25 across the 12-game campaign. This was highlighted by a four-game winning streak to end the regular season where Toronto outscored their opponents 14-0. Lee becomes the fifth Varsity Blues coach to receive the honour since 1987.
