BLUES EARN SHUTOUT WIN OVER WATERLOO

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team delivered a 3-0 shutout victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday (Oct. 10) at Warrior Field.

A slow start for both teams saw the match scoreless at halftime, but a surge of offensive pressure from the Blues in the second half resulted in three unanswered goals. Second-year forward Catalina Meilleur was the first to break the deadlock, scoring what would be the eventual game-winner in the 38th minute. First-year midfielder Ellie Mullins tallied the Blues second goal in the fourth quarter, while first-year forward Vanessa Marques rounded out the scoring from a penalty corner with two minutes remaining.

Waterloo were efficient when they drove the ball into Toronto's territory, converting five total shots into four shots on goal. But second-year standout Mary Yang was up to the task, making all four saves to secure the clean sheet.

No with a 5-1-3 (W-L-T) record, the Blues sit in third place in the OUA standings. Just two games back of first place, U of T will look to continue to push up the leaderboard with the final three games of the regular season all coming on home turd at Back Campus Fields. First up on the three-game homestand will be the Western Mustangs tomorrow (Oct. 11) afternoon.
