The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are excited to share the commitment of Vanessa Marques to the field hockey program for the 2026 season.

A 5-foot-6 forward from Oakville, Marques joins the Blues via St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School and the Halton Thrashers.

"I chose the University of Toronto because I know it is a place that will push me out of my comfort zone academically, athletically, and socially," said Marques. "Additionally, the field hockey team is highly competitive and has a very supportive team environment. I'm looking forward to becoming a Varsity Blue!"

A well-decorated athlete already, Marques has been named rookie of the year (2023), junior athlete of the year (2024), and senior athlete of the year (2026) at her high school. This has occurred alongside team MVP honours with the field hockey, rugby, ice hockey, and tennis teams. Her outstanding effort on the field hockey pitch has earned her additional opportunities, suiting up with Team Ontario at the U18 National Championship and with the U18 NextGen Canadian team for a Poland tour and as team captain for the Indoor CanAm Series.

An honour roll student throughout her high school career, Marques is set to study Life Sciences at U of T.

Students who sign a letter of intent and/or commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
