The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's fencing team will be aiming to defend their provincial title at the 2026 OUA Fencing Championships, hosted by Trent University in Peterborough from Jan. 24-25.
Last year, the Blues returned to the top of the podium to win their 16th OUA championship in program history. The banner also marked a sixth provincial title in the last seven seasons for the Blue & White.
Returning from last year's championship roster will be both the individual epee champion Lilla Mucsi, along with the entirety of the team relay sabre gold medalists squad of Janna Elshakankiri, Salma Elshakankiri, Maria Haji-Mahmoodzadeh, and Valerie Ng.
An addition to the impressive contingent of returning talent, the Blues have also seen a number of newcomers make an immediate impact throughout the invitational season this fall. First-year epee specialist Angel Liu grabbed a silver, while fifth-year post-grad Astrid Chandler took bronze in the sabre at the Queen's Open. Meanwhile, first-year Varsity Blue Valerie Qi also added a gold in the individual epee at the Brock Open.
With 13 institutions set to be represented at the 2026 edition of the provincial showcase, the quest for back-to-back titles will start inside the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Saturday, Jan. 24.
