The University of Toronto Varsity Blues fencing teams returned to Kingston for the 54th Annual RMC Invitational Team Competition.
Competing in each category of the team relay invitational, U of T saw four Top 5 results, including one gold and one bronze.
Delivering the top result for the Varsity Blues, the team of Adam Buzcek, Leo Chen, Kevin Shao, and Matthew Teng finished first overall in a field of 37 teams for the men's sabre. This included an exciting 45-41 gold medal match victory over their opponents from the York Fencing Centre.
Reaching the podium on the women's side of the draw, the team of Angel Liu, Leanna Lui, Lilla Mucsi, and Annabelle Wong placed third in the women's epee. Competing against a field of 27 teams, the Blues secured their podium position with a 45-26 quarter-final win, before being knocked off 45-36 in the semifinal round.
In the men's epee the team of Nicholas Gutierrez-Sarabia, Seraphim Jarov, Taher Kanaan, and Ethan Liu combined to finish fifth in a 47-team field.
In the women's foil, it was a combination of Alizagada Tang, Catherine Wu, Zoey Xie, and Lea Zizzari who place fifth overall.
Toronto will next travel to St. Catharines for the Brock Open scheduled to take place from Nov. 15-16.
