BLUES WOMEN WIN WATERLOO INVITATIONAL, MEN SIXTH AT LAURIER-WATERLOO INVITATIONAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues golf teams traveled to Waterloo to compete in separate two-day invitational events, with the women claiming overall gold at the Waterloo Invitational and the men tying for sixth at the Laurier-Waterloo Invitational.

Competing across two days at the Cambridge Golf Club, the U of T women claimed the overall team title with a total score of 475. The Blues earned the gold via a two-stroke advantage over the second-place finishers.

Toronto's individual low score was posted by Mia Wong, registering a 156 (81, 75) to place seventh in the 65-person field. Alyssa Kerner was right behind at 159 (76, 83) to also rank in the Top 10 at ninth, while scoring was rounded out by Tara O'Connor (80, 84) and Mia Sung (87, 80) who each posted an 80 for the team score between the two rounds played.

For the men, competition took place at Rebel Creek Golf Club on Saturday (Sept.27) and Grey Silo Golf Course on Sunday (Sept. 28). The U of T men were able to post a two-day total of 585 to tie for sixth-place in the team standings.

Jordan Hutchings topped the Blues individually, finishing in a tie for 14th with a two-day score of 144 (69, 75). This included a Day 1 best of 69. Bryan Luo placed 29th at 147 (76, 71), while both Sandro Di Delice(73, 76) and Shao Liu (79, 70) were just two strokes back with a 149 placing them in a six-way tie for 36th. Desmond White's 151 (77, 74) and Gabriel Leung's 157 (78, 79) rounded out the scores for U of T.

The Blues will have one more round to prepare for the OUA Golf Championships, first welcoming teams from across the province to the Islington Golf Club for the Toronto Invitational on Monday, Oct. 6. Tee-off is set for 12 p.m.
