With several University of Toronto fencers competing at the Ontario Provincial Championships inside Canada Games Park this past weekend, the Varsity Blues saw two student-athletes reach the podium and five achieve Top 10 finishes.
Topping the U of T competitors results, Lilla Mucsi claimed silver in the 33-person senior women's epee event. Meanwhile, on the men's side of the same epee category Dimitri Ukolov grabbed a bronze medal finish in the highly competitive 54-person bracket.
Additional Top 10 finishes included Janna Elshakankiri, who placed fifth in the senior women's sabre, Anna Mucsi, who finished eighth in the senior women's epee, and Valdis Ling, who claimed 10th in the senior men's epee. Further Top 20 results came from Salma Elshakankiri (13th - senior women's sabre), Nicholas Gutierrez-Sarabia (17th - senior men's epee), and Lea Zizzari (18th - senior women's foil).
The provincial showcase serves as a precursor to the 2025 Senior National Championships, scheduled for late September in Kingston.
