CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: NCWP WOMEN’S WATER POLO

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team head back to Kingston this weekend for the National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) Championships, hosted by Queen's University from Nov. 28-30.

U of T have delivered another undefeated season so far this fall tallying a 7-0 record versus NCWP opponents. The Blues defensive play has been stifling, allowing just 3.9 goals per game, while the U of T offence has benefitted from the ability to dominant possession posting 19.6 goals per game. This has included three matches with 20 or more goals.

Last fall, Toronto captured their 11th consecutive provincial title and 15th championship banner in program history. Despite the loss of some key graduating seniors from a strong roster last fall, the pipeline of talent continues to provide the Blues with staying power that aims to add to an ever-growing dynasty once again this fall.

Up front, Toronto possesses the last three Championship MVP's as Sarah August (2024), Devon Lynch (2023) and Hannah Levin (2022) round out their senior seasons. That powerful attack is then lifted even further by third-year utility Josie Andrist and second-year standout Julia Mic. Meanwhile on the defensive end of the pool, second-year goalie Grace Bobyk has continued the tradition of game-changing goalies for the Varsity Blues. Her prowess has gone even beyond Varsity Pool as she recently competed with the Canadian junior national team at the U20 Women's World Championship in Brazil this past August.

The Blues enter the championship showcase as the No. 1 seed, earning a bye to the semifinals scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 29). Medal matches will then take place the following day.
