The University of Toronto Varsity Blues wrestling team opened their 2025-26 campaign in Hamilton for the McMaster Open on Sunday, Nov. 2.

13 total Varsity Blues took to the mats for the first invitational of the new season, including 10 men across six weight classes and three women across three weight classes.

Delivering the top result for the Blues, Senuki Dasanayaka placed fifth in the women's 56kg event.

Varsity Blues veteran Ketan Nawbatt was also standout once again. Competing in the 68kg bracket, Nawbatt would battle to a 2-2 record scoring a 12-2 and 10-0 technical fall wins.

In his debut with the Varsity Blues, Ryan Bayan-Memar fought in three matches in the highly competitive 72kg category. Rebounding from a loss in his first contest, he would earn a 10-0 technical fall win, marking the first in the Blue and White for the arts and science student.

A busy November competition schedule for the Blues will continue next Saturday (Nov. 8) with the York Open.
