Taking a short subway trip this weekend, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues competed at the TMU Pat Bolger Open on Sunday, Nov. 16, earning three podium results.

Delivering the top finish for the Blues, first-year wrestler Nicole Hoh grabbed silver in the 56kg category. The human geography student went 2-1 on the day earning a 13-2 technical fall win versus Guelph and a tightly contested 12-8 victory against her opponent from Western. Her lone defeat came at the hands of the gold medalist on the day from McMaster.

Taking to the third step in the women's 72kg bracket, fellow first-year Blue Alexandra Lubczenko was able to convert a 6-0 decision win versus Algoma into a bronze medal on the day.

Shifting to the men, Varsity Blues veteran Andrija Rasovic bounced back from an opening defeat to convert three straight victories into a third-place finish in the 100kg event. Rasovic never conceded a point following the first match loss, going on to win 10-0 over York before back-to-back pinfall victories versus Western and Brock.

Rounding out the Top 6 finishes on the day for U of T, second-year standout Omar Al-Lahham was able to place fifth in the 16-person field competing at 90kg. Al-Lahham opened his day with a quick pinfall upset of his opponent from the Brock Wrestling Club (BRWC) before falling in a highly competitive match versus another BRWC wrestler. Jumping to the other side of the bracket, he garnered another two pinfall wins over Carleton and Western to secure a spot in the Top 6. With a further win and loss he would end the busy day with a 4-2 record overall.

The Blues will now close out their fall semester competition schedule playing host for the annual U of T Open, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29 inside the Athletic Centre. After the winter break, competition will then resume with a trio of open invitational events throughout January 2026.
