The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's and men's squash teams competed in the Jester's Sectional No. 2 in London on Saturday (Nov. 15).
For the men, U of T split the day dropping a 7-0 decision to perirenal powerhouse Western before bouncing back with a 7-0 victory of their own versus the Laurier Golden Hawks. Varsity Blues No. 3 player Jaivir Dhillon was impressive in the Saturday doubleheader, pushing his Mustangs counterpart to five sets, while winning in three versus his Golden Hawks opponent. Tegbir Singh Chandhok was also able to grab a set from his strong Western counterpart, along with earning a straight sets win versus Laurier. Toronto remain a top team in the conference with just the one loss on the season.
On the women's side of the draw, Toronto suffered their first loss with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the host Western Mustangs. In the single Saturday contest it was the pair of Keira Rawlins and Ainsley Rawlins who earned wins for the Varsity Blues. Keira captured a 3-1 victory in the No. 1 slot, thrilling the crowd with set scores of 12-10, 16-14, 7-11, 11-8. Meanwhile, Ainsley claimed a straight sets win in the No. 6 position. Both Rawlins now hold 5-0 records on the season individually.
The Varsity Blues men's and women's teams next head to Kingston in the new year for the Jester's Crossover No. 2 on Jan. 17-18. This closes out the regular season ahead of the OUA Championships scheduled for Feb. 6-8 at the White Oaks Resort.
