BLUES SET TO CHALLENGE FOR OUA BRONZE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's squash team earned a spot in the OUA Championship final four after a strong two-day showing at the provincial showcase, and will compete for bronze on Sunday morning.

Entering the tournament with medal aspirations, the Blues began their journey with an impressive 7-0 sweep of the Guelph Gryphons on Friday. U of T were dominant in the win, not conceding a single game among all seven matches versus their Gryphon counterparts. However, to close out Friday the Blues dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to the Waterloo Warriors. The trio of Keira Rawlins, Fatima Sultan, and Kashaliyah Naidoo earned the wins for Toronto in the tough team loss.

The Blues bounced right back on Saturday morning, picking up a 6-0 sweep of the Brock Badgers to secure a spot in the final four. Setting up a semifinal versus the Wester Mustangs on Saturday afternoon, Toronto fell just short in another 4-3 loss. Keira Rawlins was once again able to pick up a win for U of T, along with Ainsley Rawlins and Marlow Benson, but the critical fourth could not be found.

This loss now sets up a rematch with the Waterloo Warriors, but now putting provincial bronze on the line. The Blues are looking to claim an OUA medal for a second consecutive season. Sunday action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. from White Oaks Resort.
