The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's squash teams competed in the Jester's Crossover No. 2 in Kingston on Saturday, Jan. 17. The men's team finished the weekend undefeated and the women's team finished with a 2-1 record.
After a 7-0 win over Ottawa, women's squash partook in a tight contest against McGill. After the Blues took the first set, McGill responded with four straight wins. U of T got back on the right foot with points earned by graduate student Nicole Tomei and second-year Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., native Angela Zhang. Looking to finish the day on a high note, the Blues defeated the Waterloo Warriors 6-1. After dropping the first set, the Blues rallied for six consecutive points while Zhang and Tomei claimed their second victories of the crossover.
Men's squash began the day with a 7-0 shutout over the Ottawa Gee-Gees and capped off a two win and zero lose weekend but edging out McGill with a 4-3 win.
Both Blues teams will now turn their attention to the OUA championships, beginning Friday, Feb. 6 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The women's first match is set to begin at 1 p.m., against Waterloo while the men's first match is against the Queen's Gaels at 2:45 p.m.
