BLUES EARN BACK-TO-BACK WINS AGAINST QUEEN'S

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the Queen's Gaels 6-0 on Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon in Kingston, Ont.

The win is the Blues second straight of the weekend in which the offence was clicking and the defence and goaltending was strong, conceding zero goals in both of their games against the Gaels.

The Blues opened the scoring in the 12th minute as third-year forward Jayden Novak set up fellow third-year forward Ava Airnes. From that point onward, U of T held the lead. Two straight goals from first-year forward Catalina Meilleur extended the lead, followed by a hat trick from third-year midfielder Alicia Lung to cap off a strong offensive weekend from the Blues.

U of T's defence was strong surrendering just one shot on goal which was turned aside by first-year goalkeeper Mary Yang, who earned herself another shutout.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 11) when they travel to Montreal to face McGill. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
