The No. 9 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team welcome the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees to Varsity Stadium this Saturday (Oct. 18) for an OUA quarter-final contest.
The Blues earned a bye to the second round of the postseason after finishing first in the OUA East standings with a record of 9-2-1 (W-L-T). This included wins in five of their last six matches allowing U of T to leapfrog to the top of the group. A defensive juggernaut this season with a strong veteran core of defenders, the Blues conceded just 10 goal across 12 regular season contests, ranking them second in the province in goals allowed. Stifling their opponents all season long, they registered clean sheets in seven of their nine wins this season.
Meanwhile, Ottawa earned a 2-0 first round playoff win over the Carleton Ravens on Wednesday (Oct. 15) to advance to the quarter-final round. The Gee-Gees were fourth in the OUA East division standings with an 8-3-1 (W-L-T) record. Always one of the best offensive units, Ottawa tallied 35 goals across 12 regular season contests, including eight from third-year forward Sabrina Mangiaracina. Toronto and Ottawa split their season series with each earning a 2-0 victory, but the Gee-Gees also hold a recent postseason win over the Blues with a 2-1 victory in the 2024 OUA quarter-finals.
