The No. 8 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team defeated the visiting TMU Bold by a final score of 5-0 on Wednesday (Oct. 21) night in the opening round of the OUA playoffs.
U of T dominated the home contest controlling possession and utilizing the crowd for a second half surge which featured four goals for the home side.Â
First-year midfielder Mikaela Milzcarek notched the opening goal, which would be the eventual game-winner when a long cross made it through a crowd to her foot. The dynamic midfielder placed it perfectly back to the opposite corner for the 6th minute marker.
Shifting to the second half, sparks ignited when third-year forward Beatrice Audain tallied a second goal for Toronto in the 52nd minute. Just five minutes later, a corner kick for the Blues would take a deflection of a TMU defender for an own goal against the visitors. Then just six minutes later, third-year forward Ines Delhomelle would deliver another perfect strike into the back of the TMU net. First-year defender Jessie Rickards closed out the goal-scoring for U of T with the final marker coming in the 88th minute.
With the win, the Blues will now head to North Bay on Saturday (Oct. 24) for an OUA quarter-final showdown against the Nipissing Lakers. Kick-off for the second round contest is scheduled for 1 p.m., with the match streamed live on
