LAVIS SCORES FIRST CAREER GOAL AS FIELD HOCKEY EXTENDS THEIR WIN STREAK

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the McGill Martlets 7-0 on Sunday (Oct. 12) afternoon in Montreal, Que.

Five different Blues contributed offensively in a strong showing from the Blue and White in their fourth straight win. Fourth-year Montreal native Elizabeth Assimes notched two goals, meanwhile another pair was scored by third-year forward Alicia Lung.

In the 14th minute, third-year forward Ava Airnes opened the scoring and Assimes doubled the lead with her first goal of the match in the 22nd minute before a goal from Lung added to the lead and Assimes' second goal of the game put Toronto in the driver's seat. In the 35th minute, first-year forward Allie Lavis scored her first goal as a Blue to extend the lead to 5-0. Lung added a second goal in the 45th minute and capping off a strong game was fourth-year midfielder Maddie Skeans with a goal in the 48th minute.

Toronto's defence was strong, conceding zero shots on goal as first-year goalkeeper Mary Yang picked up another shutout in goal.

The Blues are back in action when they host the York Lions at Back Campus Fields on Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
