The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's curling team won the McMaster Invitational Bonspiel on Jan. 4-5 in Hamilton, Ontario. The Blues won four out of five games en route to their first tournament win of the 2024-25 season.
Toronto opened their weekend with a 9-2 win over the Brock Badgers on Saturday, January 4. Their second game of the day was a narrow 6-5 loss to the York Lions, but they responded with an 8-4 win over the host McMaster Marauders to put themselves in prime position to claim first place on Sunday.
On Sunday, January 5, the Blues took down the Trent Excalibur by a score of 7-4. Their 3-1 round robin record gave them a tie for the first seed, but they were awarded the tiebreaker by having the better last shot draw, setting them up for redemption in the final game against York. U of T rebounded from their lone defeat earlier in the weekend to claim a 7-4 win over the Lions to secure the tournament victory.
The Blues now hold a 9-4 record in OUA play on the season. They will be back in action at the Galt Country Club in Guelph, Ont. for the OUA Championships on Feb. 7-9.
