The University of Toronto Varsity Blues wrestling team concluded their invitational schedule, competing at the Western Open on Sunday (Jan. 26) in London, Ont.

U of T had six wrestlers in attendance for the final invitational event prior to the beginning of championship season. Two Varsity Blues in Keegan McMartin and Roberto Reali earned Top 6 finishes during the Sunday afternoon tournament.

McMartin placed third in the men's 82kg bracket earning fall victories over opponents from Western, Queen's, CLIC, and in the bronze medal match McMaster. Meanwhile, Reali placed sixth in the same 82kg category, picking up wins over two opponents from Queen's and one from Lakehead, before falling in the fifth-place contest versus CLIC.

The Western Open served as the final open invitational before the OUA Wrestling Provincial Championships on Saturday, Feb. 8 and U SPORTS Wrestling National Championships from Feb. 28 - Mar. 1. Wrestlers earn their spot at the national event based on their performance at the OUA championships.
