The University of Toronto Varsity Blues wrestling team continued their competition schedule this past weekend with the Guelph Open on Sunday (Jan. 19).
With six wrestlers entered across six different weight classes, the Blues earned two Top 6 finishes.
Earning the top result for U of T, Josiah Mayers-Noel picked up his second bronze medal of the 2024-25 invitational season. Competing in the 74kg bracket, Mayers-Noel earned wins over two opponents from Guelph and won the third-place match versus UNB by fall, avenging a quarter-final loss versus the very same opponent earlier in the day.
Also cracking the Top 6 once again, Jimmy Lin placed sixth in the 57kg category, with the highlight being a fall victory over his opponent from Western.
Continuing preparations for the OUA Championships in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., in early February, the Blues will conclude their invitational schedule with the Western Open on Sunday, Jan. 26.
