This weekend both the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's tennis teams will travel to Montreal, Que., to take part in the 2024 Canadian University Tennis Championships (CUTC) scheduled to take place from Aug. 9-11. The event, which is coordinated by Tennis Canada, in cooperation with U SPORTS, brings together the top four men's and women's university teams from across the country in a national championship event.
The Varsity Blues men's and women's teams both earned their spot at the national event after winning the OUA championships this past fall. On the men's side of the draw, U of T will be joined by UBC, Laval, and Dalhousie. Meanwhile, on the women's side, Toronto is joined in the national final four by Laval, Alberta, and Dalhousie.

For the men, Toronto will once again be led by No. 1 Rassam Yazdi. A senior engineering major, Yazdi was named OUA Player of the Year in 2022 and delivered another strong season this past fall going undefeated in singles contests ahead of the provincial championship. Additionally, Yazdi and doubles partner, Michael Chu, both earned OUA all-star honours after the Blues spectacular run to the OUA championship. Toronto claimed their 34
th provincial championship in program history, behind the strong deep roster. The Blues last attended the Canadian University Tennis Championships in 2021, placing fourth overall. Their best finish in recent history was a national silver medal during the 2018 CUTC.

For the women, Toronto will rely on rookie sensation Anastasiya Dyadchenko. The first-year social sciences student served as the Blues No. 1 singles player, eventually earning both OUA rookie of the year and OUA player of the year honours following the Blues OUA championship victory. She is joined by a collection of strong first-year athletes, including her doubles teammate Maria Popova. The provincial banner last fall marked the 41
st OUA championship in program history for the women. Toronto returns to the CUTC having previously claimed national silver in 2022.
