U OF T INTO OUA CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's tennis team will compete for OUA gold after picking up a 6-1 semifinal win over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Oct. 11) at Mayfair Club - Toronto East.

During doubles matches, U of T was able to claim the win in all three contests, including a dominant 8-2 victory in the No. 1 slot from partners Rassam Yazdi and Lucas Mock. Then in the singles matches, the Blues secured the team win with five more individual victories. Benjamin Whitely impressed with a 6-1, 6-1 win as the No. 3 for Toronto, while Eric Ma and Alex Zhang scored identical 6-4, 6-3 wins as the fourth and fifth.

In an upset from the second semifinal, Toronto will meet the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the gold medal match. Entering the championship as the No. 5 seed, Ottawa defeated the defending champion and No. 1 seed Western Mustangs 4-3 on Saturday to earn their spot opposite U of T. The Blues will be looking to claim their second championship in the last three years and 41st in program history.
