The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's curling team earned a spot in the OUA Championship quarter-final round after earning a third round-robin victory on Saturday (Feb. 3) in Guelph.
After two wins on Friday, the Blues team of Daniel Hocevar, Landan Rooney, Matthew Prenevost, Quinn Heffron, Marshall MacPherson, and Ben Whitehouse opened Day 2 of the provincial showcase with an 8-2 victory over McMaster before falling 8-3 in a round robin finale against Queen's. Finishing pool play with a 3-1 overall record, Toronto placed second in Pool D, advancing to one of four quarter-final matches on Sunday (Feb. 3) morning.
On the ice on Saturday, U of T played exceptional in their first match of the day, scoring all eight points within the first five ends versus the Marauders.
Ending the day against a tough Gaels opponent, the two teams exchanged scores in the first two ends. However, the Blues slipped up through the next three as Queen's was able to build a lead they never relinquished.
The 2024 OUA Men's Curling Championship continues on Sunday with quarter-final elimination matches at 9 a.m.
