The University of Toronto Varsity Blues wrestling team began their 2024-25 competition schedule on Sunday (Nov. 3) at the McMaster Open in Hamilton, Ont.

The Blues had an impressive first outing as the U of T men tied for second in the team standings courtesy three podium results. Meanwhile, the Toronto women also delivered a strong performance with individual silver and bronze medals.

First-year Blue Omar Al-Lahham took second in the 90kg category to top the results for the Toronto men. Returning U of T veterans Ketan Nawbatt and Andrija Rasovic took third in their respective weights, 68kg and 100kg. Rounding out the Toronto men, Keegan McMartin placed fifth in the 82kg bracket, while Pratham Singh finished sixth in the 76kg category.

Shifting to the women, second-year standout Maya Salman reached the second step on the podium, placing second in the 65kg weight class. The Blues also earned a third place result in the 56kg courtesy Dany Wang.

With a busy November schedule, U of T will jump right back on the mat next Sunday (Nov. 10) at the TMU Open.
