The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team will look to continue their undefeated streak as they travel to Kingston, Ont., this weekend for the annual National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) Championship, hosted this season by Queen's University.
Last fall, the Blues captured their seventh consecutive NCWP banner and 10
th straight provincial title in convincing fashion, defeating the Queen's Gaels 17-4. U of T will be looking to repeat the dominance as they enter the 2024 edition of the championship with an unblemished 11-0 record, including a perfect 9-0 versus NCWP opponents.
Making another trip to the championship, Toronto will once again be leaning on 2023 and 2022 NCWP Outstanding Players Devon Lynch and Hannah Levin. Lynch garnered the award in 2023 after tallying seven goals across two games at last year's championship weekend, while Levin capped off a perfect 2022 campaign with a hat-trick in the gold medal game.
Additionally, the Blues will have veteran presence Hana Truchla in net. The fourth-year U of T engineering student has been named NCWP Outstanding Goalie in each of the last three years, providing a steady presence in goal, which this season has seen the Blues concede five or less goals in nine of their 11 wins.
Filled with outstanding team depth, forwards Sarah August, Ava Stimson, and Josie Andrist will bring plenty of scoring options when combined with the rest of their teammates.
So far this season Toronto has outscored their NCWP opponents 168-25 across nine matches, all victories for the Blue and White.
Action begins for the Blues with an NCWP semifinal showdown on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 1:15 p.m. Medal games follow the next day on Sunday, Dec. 1.
