BLUES, FOLEY GOLDEN AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's golf team won the Liz Hoffman Trophy as team champions as the 2024 OUA championships wrapped up on Sunday (Oct. 6) at Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor, Ont.
 
Toronto finished tied atop the leaderboard with the Guelph Gryphons with a combined team score of 471, but the Blues won the tiebreak to take the overall title - their 10th in program history and second in the past three seasons. 
 
Second-year PhD candidate Anna Foley won the Judy McCrae Trophy as individual champion. Foley finished with a two-day total of 148, including a Day 2 round of 71 to complete the comeback. Guelph's Jacqueline Giles finished one stroke back for the silver medal.
 
Mia Wong finished 13th with a two-day total of 160 (82, 78), while both Mia Sung (83, 83) and Tara O'Connor (86, 80) placed 21st with scores of 166.
 
Toronto's men placed 10th overall with a combined team score of 604, just five strokes back of fifth place in a tightly contested field.
 
Jordan Hutchings led the Blues with a seventh-place finishing, shooting 145 (71, 74) and earned OUA second team all-star honours for his efforts. Kazuma Sawai shot a 152 (76, 76) and both Bryan Luo (75, 80) and Mac Anderson (77, 78) shot 155.
 
Chris Tortorice earned OUA women's coach of the year honours.
