BLUES HEAD TO WINDSOR FOR OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are set to compete at the 2024 OUA golf championships, October 5-6, hosted by the Windsor Lancers at Ambassador Golf Club.

The Blues women will be vying for their 10th provincial title in program history, having last won in 2022. Toronto claimed the silver medal at last year's OUA event.

U of T heads into the championship on a high, after winning the Waterloo Women's Invitational this past weekend. The Blues also won the Western Invitational and finished second overall at the Guelph Fall Kickoff and third at the Brock Invitational this season.

Leading the way has been second-year PhD candidate Anna Foley. The Toronto native and former Depauw University standout won individual gold at the Western Invitational, while placing second at Waterloo and third at Guelph.

Second-year golfers Tara O'Connor and Mia Sung tied for seventh individually at last year's OUA championships. O'Connor also led the Blues with fourth-place finish at Brock this season. First-year commerce major Mia Wong will make her OUA debut this weekend as well.

Toronto's men are challenging for their first OUA banner since 2008 and first podium finish since 2015. The Blues return 4-of-5 golfers from last year's provincial championships.

Sai Kaja will look to lead the way once again after a 16th place individual finish, which included a first round of 70, at the 2023 championships. He also shot a 70 to tie for third at the Guelph Fall Kickoff last month.

Bryan Luo heads into his second OUA championship after a solid season. Luo shot a 71 at the season-opener at Guelph, as well as a second round of 67 at the Laurier/Waterloo Invitational this past weekend.

The Blues lineup holds a lot of depth as Kazuma Sawai is set to compete in his fourth OUA championship, while third-year commerce major Mac Andrekson heads into his third. Andrekson was Toronto's top golfer at the 2022 championships, placing eighth overall.

Jordan Hutchings rounds out Toronto's contingent. The PhD candidate competed for Simon Fraser University from 2014-17.

Round 1 of the championships tees off on Saturday at 10 a.m. Live results will be available on the Golf Ontario website.
