BLUES RELEGATED TO BRONZE MEDAL MATCH AFTER SEMIFINAL DEFEAT

On Day 2 of the 2024 OUA Women's Lacrosse Championship in St. Catharines, Ont., the University of Toronto Varsity Blues fell 23-3 versus the Queen's Gaels in a semifinal showdown.

After earning their place in the final four with a win over Brock and a draw with Trent, the Blues were aiming to ride the momentum into the second day of competition at Kiwanis Fields. However, the 2022 OUA champion Gaels were also riding their own wave of momentum after wins over Laurier and McMaster in which they outscored their opponents 39-4.

The dynamic Queen's offence proved they could continue to dominate with the semifinal win over the Blues, garnering an 8-1 advantage after the first period and never looking back.

Toronto saw three different goal-scorers in Rheanna Swanson, Bridget Henson, and Isabella Ward.

The Blues will need more on Sunday (Oct. 26) as they will next challenge for the OUA bronze medal early in a 9:30 a.m. match. U of T's opponent will be decided in the final semifinal contest of Day 2 later this evening between Ontario Tech and Trent. Medal matches will be streamed on oua.tv.
