The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team finished their regular season with a 16-10 loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
The Blues opened the scoring just two minutes into the game on a goal from third-year attack Holly Bureau. The Ridgebacks responded with three quick goals until Rhea Swanson cut the deficit to just one goal. Ontario Tech added another before the end of the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead.
Toronto scored three goals in the second quarter, with tallies coming from Pippa Sinyard, Lily Brooks, and Julia Ibelings. Ontario Tech repeated their four-goal performance from the first quarter, taking an 8-5 lead into halftime.
The Blues bounced back in the third quarter, holding the Ridgebacks to just one goal while scoring three of their own, cutting the Ridgeback lead to one. Swanson scored two more goals to complete the hat trick, while Bureau netted her second of the game.
Bureau, a criminology/sociology major, opened the fourth quarter scoring with her own hat-trick goal. The Ridgebacks responded with a flurry of goals throughout the rest of the game, giving them an eventual 16-10 win. Brooks added her second goal for the Blues late in the game.
With this loss, the Blues finish the regular season with a 2-7 record. Ontario Tech improves to 6-3.
The Blues face off against the Trent Excalibur on Friday, October 25 at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines, Ont. to kick off their OUA Championship schedule. The game is scheduled for a 2:45 p.m. start.
