The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team will make a cross-town trek to face the TMU Bold in the first round of the OUA playoffs on Saturday, October 19 at 2 p.m. at Downsview Park.
The Blues had a strong finish to the regular season, going undefeated in their final four games to clinch the fifth playoff seed with a 6-3-3 (W-L-T) record. Toronto's only loss in the second half of the season came against the Carleton Ravens, and they have tied or won since. The Blues have gone three consecutive games without allowing a goal against, a testament to their strong defensive play and impressive performances of both goalkeepers, Maria Godoy-Atrash and Juliana Ottoni.
TMU finished just one point ahead of the Blues in the regular season with a 7-4-1 record, which gives them home-field advantage in this opening playoff round. These two teams have not met since the second game of the season, which saw the Bold come out on top with a narrow 2-1 victory at Varsity Stadium. The Bold had a strong start to the season, going 4-1-1 in the first half. However, their pace has slowed since, going 3-3-0 since.
Both the Blues and the Bold closed out their regular seasons with match-ups against the visiting Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs. The Blues won both meetings by a combined score of 5-0, while the Bold defeated Laurentian 3-0 and fell to the nationally ranked Lakers 2-0. The Blues will look to keep their winning ways going while taking advantage of the Bold's lackluster end to the regular season.
