The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's curling team finished third overall at the McMaster Invitational this past weekend with an impressive 4-1 record.
Rotating positions throughout the two-day competition, the Blues team consisted of Matthew Prenevost, Marshall MacPherson, Ben Whitehouse, Quinn Heffron, and Jacky Chung.
The Blues began Day 1 with an 8-2 victory over the TMU Bold. Entering the third end tied 2-2, Toronto were able to score in the next four consecutive ends to secure their first win of the day.
U of T continued the strong play with a 7-2 victory versus the Western Mustangs next. Again, the Blues parlayed four straight scoring ends for the win.
Competing versus the McMaster JV team to close out Saturday (Jan. 6), Toronto defeated the home side 9-5. The Blues were propelled by a five point third end in the win.
Continuing into Day 2, the Blues fell 6-4 in a tightly contest match against the Laurier Golden Hawks which saw the Waterloo-based squad pull away late with five points in the last three ends.
The Blues bounced right back through closing out the competition with a 4-2 win over the McMaster Varsity team.
Toronto will be back on the ice competing next at the Brock University Bonspiel from Jan. 20-21.
