The No. 2 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the McMaster Marauders 4-0 on Wednesday (Sept. 20) night in Hamilton.
Second-year forward Elizabeth Assimes opened the scoring for the Blues tallying the lone goal of the first half.
After the halftime break, the U of T offence was rolling as they added a trio of second half markers from Jayden Novak, McKinley Kennedy, and Molly Koop.
Meanwhile, the Blues defence was exceptional shutting out the home side. Leading the way for the Toronto defence was fourth-year captain Evianne Rovers and fourth-year goalkeeper Deepi Gill.
One of the highlights of the night included a spectacular penalty stroke save from Gill, as she made a perfectly timed dive to deny an early Marauder goal-scoring attempt in the first half.
Toronto will have a quick turnaround as they get set to face the Western Mustangs on home turf at Back Campus Fields on Saturday, Sept. 23. Action begins at 1 p.m.
