The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team drew the visiting Waterloo Warriors 0-0 on Saturday (Sept. 19) afternoon at Back Campus Fields.
In a high intensity matchup between two of the OUA's best, Toronto controlled possession in the first quarter with pristine ball movement and good stickwork to breakup passes. Relentless in the midfield, first-year life science student Maddy Kim excellent at keeping possession in the Blues favour. Between the pipes, a big save by second-year U of T goalkeeper Marry Yang kept the game scoreless. In the second quarter, the Warriors began to press but a good defensive stick by Kim helped stifle the opposition.
Waterloo's best chance of the game came in the second half but with danger ensuing in the defensive zone, a block by second-year defender Danielle D'Silva helped drive momentum the home sides favour. Turning defence into offence, fourth-year captain Maggie Mullins was electric for the Blue and White all afternoon as the Charlottetown native helped produce quality chances for Toronto. The Blues pushed hard for a goal with chances right until the 0-0 draw was final.
Up next, U of T will take on the Western Mustangs on Sunday (Sept. 20) afternoon in London, Ont. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
